Meet Kieran Sernig - Your Personal Trainer
My passion for fitness and health and, eventually Kieran Sernig Personal Training, was ingrained in me from birth. My sister (2 years older) and I were born with a severe medical difficulty that, over the course of our lives so far, has seen us close to the end of it with numerous trips to the hospital.
Severe asthma forced me into being healthy and fit. It can not be cured but the chances of severe attacks can be lessened by keeping active and keeping the lungs and respiratory system strong and healthy.
Since I was born I have always been involved in sports. From primary school soccer teams and high school touch football teams, to out of school swimming and tennis clubs, I had learned that sport and activity wasn't just for fun, but to improve my quality of life.
These experiences have taught me the skills and disciplines to be a top Weight Loss Coach and Personal Fitness Trainer.
I began my Personal Training course in 2003 because I wanted to help people. I realised how my being physically active and fit was leading me to a happier and more fulfilled life. I remember talking to someone while walking up stairs and wondering why they weren't talking back. If being puffed and red faced from walking a set of stairs ruins the rest of your day, it's time to do something about it.
After working in a gym for 5 years I came to realise that people in a gym will get the help they need. But what about those who are apprehensive about walking into a gym? Where do they go? Who is helping them? That is why I started Kieran Sernig Personal Training. Now I'm mobile, I can help many others outdoors who don't enjoy gyms, who aren't sure where to start, or just need a helping hand in the right direction.
School teams have helped me learn the importance of team work and support. Without these two qualities, goals seem so much further away. By using this in my Training and Coaching principles I can have you achieving dreams you never thought possible, and in turn, inspiring your recruited support network to reach for their goals where you can repay the favour and support them.
Competing in tennis has helped me learn tactics. The mind is a wonderful thing and can empower, or hinder the body. In my Personal Training we always stay one step ahead of the game. I know what your body will want to do, why it will want to do it and how we can; prevent it happening in the first place, reduce the impact it has if it does get to us, get over the hurdle, or get back on track if we have been knocked off. The confident player always wins. Knowledge is confidence. If you can arm yourself with knowledge, you can reach your goals and will come out on top.
Swimming made me realise the power of the individual and discipline. You can be swimming in a pool with 8 other competitors but there is nothing they can do to stop you getting to the end. Winning is great, but there is nothing compared to the feeling of beating your own personal best. You don't have to measure yourself with another person's ruler, you are in charge of how well you perform and only your determination will tell you how quickly you can get to the end.
My leadership began from leading numerous tennis teams to victory and captaining my swimming club, school and school sports house. This quality could be the most important, for me and for you. My leadership skills have strengthened by leading many clients to weight loss success, to pass physical police, fire and ambulance entry tests, to rehabilitation and recovery from spinal and head injuries, and simply to a healthier and happier life.
The next phase is to help people globally. One-on-one training gets terrific results, group training lets more people get he help they need, but there are still so many people out there who are too embarrassed to talk to someone and seek help. That's why I've launched kieranspt.com.

KIERAN SERNIG PERSONAL TRAINING
“I was an active teenager, however like most teenagers I fought a very negative battle of poor self image. This led to a decade of fad diet after fad diet. My weight ballooning at times to in excess of 130kgs. Everything in my life came down to excuses, I had one for everything…(the ones I'd say out loud) it's too cold, I have a back injury, I have 3 children, my husband travels away 6 months of the year… (to the ones I could barely admit to myself (how can I go to a gym looking like this? Do they even make gym clothes in my size, what if I spend the rest of my life like this??). I had my 3rd baby in August 08, I was huge, I was uncomfortable and I was unhappy. I joined a gym, I did the moves, I lost a few kgs…yay right?? NO. I was 31 for goodness sake. Everything was a battle, I just didn't have the energy to be the parent I wanted to be, that I knew I could be…that my kids deserved!!
So what was I going to do? No really WHAT WAS I GOING TO DO!! Well for the first time in my adult life I was going to do SOMETHING, no more diets, no more pretending at a gym, NO MORE EXCUSES, I was going to find someone to help me be me! I called Kieran on a Tuesday, he came to my house the very next day. We did a physical test and for once I was not embarrassed about how unfit I was, I didn't have to hide and I didn't have to make any excuse, I was stoked to know that it was all up from here.
The results came thick and fast, every session I saw fantastic results. I worked hard but I knew if Kieran said I could do it then I could do it! It may not have been pretty and I may not have always enjoyed it but I could do it! For 6 months I was like a horse with a carrot dangling in front of me on a string, whilst my physical, mental and emotional strength grew so did the sessions, I dropped massive kgs. I learnt about myself, I had the physical energy to do the things I had always wanted to do (like running the 10km bridge to Brisbane) but I also had the mental energy to see where I had been and why I had been there, and with Kieran's help, why I will never have to go back there.
I have had another beautiful daughter since my major results and I'm not saying having a baby was easy on my body, but I was back training with Kieran within 8 weeks of her birth and I am only 5kgs off my goal weigh. a massive 50kgs lighter than my 20's. I walked my kids to the park today, 8km round trip, not because someone told me too but because I wanted too! And I loved every minute of it!
Why did I let Kieran use my real name on this website? Why did I let him use a full face photo? Because I am real, my story is real, I am not embarrassed for what I was, I am proud of what I have become.
Does my story motivate you? Well I hope it does. It's not that old saying "well if I can do it anyone can" It's just simply that ANYONE CAN. The rewards for being honest with yourself, for giving up all the excuses are worth it because you are worth it!
It's you that has to decide to change, no one can do it for you. BUT you do need someone there on your side, fighting right there with you. I can't begin to thank Kieran for all the help and support he has shown me. His dedication to helping others in phenomenal.
