Raby Bay Triathlon Cleveland
To out your mind at ease, it is a mini triathlon, and there are two distances to choose from. And for most of our team this is also their first triathlon. We have a few that have done the Raby Bay Triathlon before and some other's so you'll be in good hands.
I'm sure you have plenty of questions so here are the facts-
Raby Bay Triathlon
What is a triathlon?
A triathlon is a sporting event where you complete the disciplines consecutively. Put simply it is a swim followed by a cycle finishing with a run. You transition from one to the next continuously.
How far is the Raby Bay Triathlon?
In the Raby Bay Triathlon you have two distances to choose from. (And also a kids Triathlon).
The longer one is a 400 metre swim, followed by a 15km cycle, finishing with a 4km run.
The shorter event is a 200 metre swim followed by a 5km cycle and ends with a 2km run.
The kid's event is a 100m swim, 2km cycle, 400 metre run
Do I have to do it all?
No. You can choose weather you'd like to do all three legs of the race (and I very strongly encourage you to!) or you can do it in a team. A team consists of two or three participants with each person completing one or two legs of the triathlon. Each team has a swimmer, cyclist and runner.
If you would like to do the Raby Bay Triathlon in a team you can either gather a few friends who would like to do it with us and form a team, or let me know which legs you would like to compete in and we may be able to make a team for you.
When is it?
The event is held on Sunday the 26th of February 2012. You check in before 6.15am, the kid's event starts at 6.45am, the short distance starts at 7:00am and the longer distance starts at 7:30am.
Where is the Raby Bay Triathlon?
The Raby Bay Triathlon is held in Cleveland. The swim is in the harbour (near Hogsbreath restaurant), the cycle leaves from Cleveland and heads up Shore Street West towards Ormiston and back, and the run leaves the same place and heads up Masthead Drive and back.Do I have to be a good swimmer, cyclist or runner?
You have to be able to complete the course. You don't have to be a professional, none of us are, but you definitely should train for the event. If you are doing the 2km run, make sure you can complete a 2km run. Do some swims, runs and cycles beforehand. You can access a free training program right here.
It would also be a great idea to come along to Run Group on Saturday mornings too. Then you can build your fitness, work on your running, and we may even get some cycling or organise some a swim or two before the Raby Bay Triathlon. And it's also good to hang out with the team, get to know one another and ask questions so we can share knowledge and help each other out.
The last part of training would be to go to Raby Bay on Saturday afternoon the day before and get some free tips on transitions and how to set up, what to look for and bike set up.
